Development Led Inquiry

An approach to understanding and improving complex situations through collaborative knowledge generation and testing

Processes followed in Development Led Inquiry

1. Understand the situation

The first step requires you to develop an understanding of the situation you want to improve.  The understanding needs to encompass multiple views or perspectives

4. Re-envision improved situation

Together with partners consider the potential impacts of research outcomes.

2. Opportunities to improve

For whom are we trying to improve the situation and what constitutes improvement for them ?

5. Apply, adapt and test potential changes

Determine impacts and whether they constitute improvement and for whom. Assessment involves multiple stakeholders.

3. Build new knowledge

In collaboration with stakeholders develop and test new knowledge that might be applied to improve a situation.

6. Production of an improved situation

This does not constitute a final step but rather a link to Step 2 where we continue to seek improvement
